About the Role
National Medical Care is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Urologist to join their team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position involves providing comprehensive patient care for both inpatients and outpatients, upholding the highest standards of professional performance, medical ethics, and hospital by-laws. The Consultant Urologist will play a key leadership role in the Urology department, ensuring the delivery of superior medical treatment and compassionate care in alignment with JCIA standards and Ministry of Health regulations.
The role requires a commitment to maintaining a high level of professional performance, contributing to the departmental quality plan with measurable performance improvement standards, and fostering an environment of continuous learning and development. The successful candidate will be instrumental in leading performance improvement initiatives and ensuring patient rights are respected.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensures, through direct or indirect actions, that superior quality medical treatment, compassion, and understanding are provided to every patient.
- Provides patient care within the scope of their professional competence and clinical privileges for both inpatients and outpatients.
- Practices within the framework of clinically relevant and scientifically valid standards, guidelines, and criteria.
- Conducts regular ward rounds, individually or as part of a team, to formulate multi-disciplinary treatment plans, including pre-operative and post-operative care.
- Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within the specialty.
- Assesses and refers appropriate patients to other medical facilities and accepts referrals of patients within their field of specialty.
- Participates in the department's on-call rota for patient care and admissions.
- Responds to emergencies to offer advice and actively participates in problem-solving related to their specialty.
- Upholds patients' rights to security, confidentiality, and privacy.
- Maintains accurate, timely, and legible patient records.
- Provides leadership in organizational performance improvement functions, including the measurement, assessment, and improvement of clinical and non-clinical processes as part of the Departmental Quality Plan.
- Supervises the duties of assigned junior medical staff, including Senior Registrars, Registrars, Residents, Nurses, and other paramedical staff.
- Actively participates in Continuing Medical Education (CME) through hospital educational activities and national/international meetings, conferences, and symposia.
- Actively participates in training programs for junior medical staff and in-service training for nursing and technical staff.
- Continuously updates medical knowledge and upgrades professional skills.
- Participates in assigned committee meetings, such as Quality Improvement and Infection Control.
- Abides by Department Policies and Procedures, as well as hospital by-laws, rules, and regulations.
- Educates patients and their families according to their needs, implementing the patient and family education policy and procedure, including documentation in patient medical records.
- Involves patients and families in the plan of care, respecting their goals and choices.
- Provides health promotion and health teaching using methods appropriate to the patient's developmental level, learning needs, readiness, ability to learn, language preference, culture, and situation.
- Allots necessary time to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient education provided to patients and families, with appropriate documentation.
- Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the scope of their knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Saudi Board, American Board, Canadian Fellowship, FRCS, or equivalent qualification.
- Up to five (5) years of post-qualification experience.
- Current valid license to practice medicine in the area of their specialty.
- Registration with the Saudi Medical Council and/or a current license to practice medicine in Saudi Arabia.
- Additional experience in a sub-specialty is desirable.
- Academic affiliation is desirable.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated leadership and administrative skills.
- Fluent in verbal and written English.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and professionalism.
- Knowledge of Medical by-laws.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
Work Environment
This is a full-time position based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The role reports to the Head, Department of Surgery.
