WHS Officer Workplace health and safety

About the Role

Afaq - Warehouse Branch is seeking a WHS Officer, Workplace Health and Safety, to join their team in Riyadh. This full-time position requires 3-5 years of experience and involves partnering with site operations to ensure compliance with company safety policies and local regulations. The successful candidate will drive continuous improvement initiatives to foster a safe working environment.

Role Overview

The Site WHS Officer will be responsible for executing company safety policies and ensuring compliance with all applicable local and regional regulations within a delivery station. This role involves leveraging lean principles and Kaizens to lead continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing conditional and ergonomic risks. The officer will build trust with the Operations Team, inspire change through comprehensive risk assessments and safety data analysis, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. The WHS Officer will instruct and train Operations Leaders on WHS policies and assist site teams in incorporating safety standards. This role is part of the site WHS team and reports to the Site WHS Manager. Flexibility to work in shifts is required.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide guidance and oversight to ensure site compliance with WHS standards, policies, and local regulations.
• Measure site performance against safety requirements and develop action plans to address gaps.
• Deliver quality safety projects to Operations on schedule.
• Analyze safety metrics and incident trends to allocate resources effectively where risk is highest.
• Ensure proper incident investigation and timely closure of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
• Conduct regular audits to identify unsafe equipment and processes, implementing solutions to prevent injury.
• Audit record-keeping to ensure entries meet global WHS standards and local regulations.
• Audit workplace organization and associate behaviors to ensure training, auditing, and scoring are accurate and consistent.
• Lead and mentor Safety Associates, including during peak periods.
• Engage with associates, safety teams, and leaders to gather improvement ideas and communicate progress.
• Ensure leaders and associates are trained on their safety responsibilities, and audit training quality, delivery, and effectiveness.
• Manage PPE inventory with procurement and ensure PPE compliance.
• Implement best practices, PIT and yard safety, the work permit system, and contractor safety management.
• Maintain the site safety training calendar, including firefighting and first aid training.
• Partner with the facility team to ensure preventive maintenance of fire protection and emergency equipment.

Qualifications and Experience

• 3-5 years of relevant experience in Workplace Health and Safety.
• Thorough understanding of local and regional WHS regulations and company policies.
• Demonstrated expertise in safety program knowledge, as well as environmental and ergonomic principles.
• Ability to conduct comprehensive risk assessments and safety data analysis.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to convey clear and consistent messages.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position based in Riyadh, requiring flexibility to work in shifts. The WHS Officer will work collaboratively as part of a site WHS team, reporting directly to the Site WHS Manager, and will engage closely with site operations teams.
