About the Role

Labora Partners is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with specialized experience in the construction and commissioning of high voltage substations. This role is for one of its clients, a leading international technical consulting and engineering company operating in the Middle East for over a decade. The client serves utilities, transmission and distribution system operators, generation companies, and electromechanical manufacturers. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to significant substation projects within a multinational, multidisciplinary, and technically advanced setting, collaborating with governmental institutions and grid operators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and verify mechanical construction and commissioning activities for high voltage substations as executed by the EPC Contractor.
  • Ensure all mechanical works adhere to contractual requirements, technical specifications, approved drawings, and project schedules.
  • Verify the accuracy, methodology, quality control, and timely execution of all on-site mechanical works.
  • Maintain comprehensive familiarity with mechanical engineering drawings and documentation.
  • Supervise and verify the erection of structural steel and equipment.
  • Oversee the mechanical installation of transformers and their associated cooling and oil systems.
  • Manage the installation and verification of HVAC systems.
  • Ensure the correct installation and verification of fire fighting and fire protection systems.
  • Oversee and verify lifting and handling operations.
  • Manage and verify the installation of piping and auxiliary systems.
  • Implement and oversee quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures for mechanical works.
  • Verify pre-commissioning and commissioning testing activities for mechanical systems.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting and documentation of all mechanical activities.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in the construction and commissioning of high voltage (HV) electrical substations.
  • Proven track record in supervising and verifying the mechanical scope of substation construction and commissioning activities within multinational and multidisciplinary projects.
  • Comprehensive familiarity with mechanical engineering drawings and documentation.
  • Familiarity with structural steel and equipment erection.
  • Experience with the mechanical installation of transformers and associated cooling and oil systems.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems installation and verification.
  • Experience with fire fighting and fire protection systems installation and verification.
  • Understanding of lifting and handling operations in substation environments.
  • Familiarity with piping and auxiliary systems installation and verification.
  • Proficiency in quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures.
  • Experience with pre-commissioning and commissioning testing.
  • Skilled in reporting and documentation for mechanical projects.
  • Sound knowledge of recognized international and local engineering codes and standards, directives, and safety regulations, including but not limited to: ASME, ASTM, API, AWS, NFPA, ASHRAE, ISO, EN, DIN, HCIS, NCEC Environmental Regulations, OSHA, and relevant OEM standards and practices.
  • Familiarity with the laws, regulations, and codes applicable within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is essential.

Work Environment and Compensation

This is a full-time position for a Mechanical Engineer – High Voltage Substations. The role is based in Ar Rass and Al Ghat, located in the Central Region of Saudi Arabia. The required experience is a minimum of 8 years in the field, with an overall experience of over 10 years expected. The monthly salary offered is up to 20,*** SAR.
