Work Environment and Compensation

This is a full-time position for a Mechanical Engineer – High Voltage Substations. The role is based in Ar Rass and Al Ghat, located in the Central Region of Saudi Arabia. The required experience is a minimum of 8 years in the field, with an overall experience of over 10 years expected. The monthly salary offered is up to 20,*** SAR.

About the Role

Labora Partners is seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Engineer for a client in the Middle East. The client is an international technical consulting and engineering company with over a decade of experience in the power and energy sector across the Gulf region. They serve utilities, transmission and distribution operators, generation companies, regulators, and electromechanical manufacturers, covering the full lifecycle of power infrastructure. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to significant high voltage substation projects within a multinational, multidisciplinary, and technical environment, collaborating with governmental institutions and grid operators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and verify the instrumentation and control construction and commissioning activities for high voltage substations as performed by the EPC Contractor.
  • Ensure all I&C works comply with contractual requirements, technical specifications, approved drawings, and project schedules.
  • Verify the accuracy, methodology, quality control, and timely execution of all on-site I&C works.
  • Supervise and verify the instrumentation and control scope within multinational and multidisciplinary substation construction and commissioning projects.
  • Maintain comprehensive familiarity with instrumentation and control engineering drawings and documentation.
  • Oversee the installation and configuration of protection, automation, and control (SAS – Substation Automation Systems).
  • Verify SCADA/RTU and HMI systems, ensuring compliance with IEC 61850-based architectures.
  • Oversee the installation and verification of protection relays and metering equipment.
  • Ensure proper installation and verification of field instrumentation and cabling.
  • Supervise and verify signal loop checks.
  • Oversee and verify functional and integration testing.
  • Ensure adherence to quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Instrumentation, Control, Electronics, or Electrical Engineering.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in the construction and commissioning of high voltage (HV) electrical substations.
  • Proven track record in supervising and verifying the instrumentation and control (I&C) scope of substation construction and commissioning activities within multinational and multidisciplinary projects.
  • Comprehensive familiarity with instrumentation and control engineering drawings and documentation.
