Barista — Job Description
Overview
The Barista is a key team member responsible for beverage preparation, daily inventory counting, and customer service. They are the first backup for the Senior Barista and the Cashier, making them the most versatile role in the branch. During morning shifts without a cleaner, they participate in cleaning the customer area with the Senior Barista.
Core Responsibilities
- Beverage preparation: Preparing all coffee, tea, and drinks according to standards.
- Daily inventory: Counting sweets, pastries, and milk at the end of the shift and accurately reporting the numbers.
- Customer service: Taking orders, providing service, and maintaining the display.
- Supply monitoring: Monitoring syrup and materials levels and reporting when stock is low.
- Backup cashier: Handling POS, payments, and register reconciliation when needed.
- Backup Senior Barista: Taking over their duties when they are absent.
- Cleaning (morning, no cleaner): Wiping tables and floors, cleaning the entrance and windows, emptying trash, and checking restrooms.
- Cleaning (evening, no cleaner): Taking over the full Daily Cleaning Checklist.
Beverage Preparation & Quality
Coffee of the Day: Prepare according to the Senior Barista's calibration, knowing the origin and tasting notes, and report immediately any issues or shortages in beans.
Espresso & Milk: Espresso, double, ristretto, lungo, Americano. Latte, cappuccino, flat white, cortado, macchiato, mocha — heating the milk (60–65°C), appropriate foam, consistent ratios. Latte art on every milk drink (heart minimum).
Tea & Other: Green tea (75–80°C / 2–3 min), black tea (95–98°C / 3–5 min), herbal, chai, matcha. Hot chocolate, steamers, fresh juices, smoothies.
Quality: Reviewing every drink before serving. Reporting any equipment issues immediately. Reducing waste and adhering to recipes.
